NowLoading-Online.com
NowLoading-Online is probably one of those sites that you’ve never heard of. It is a small running site as of now, but the idea behind it is something that could actually turn into something big, you just haven’t heard of it yet. The brains behind the operation, Jacob (commonly known across the internet as ShadowGunner, and more commonly just as Gunner), dedicates time and effort into the site in a way that I wish I could into my own site(s).
The website is run on php-fusion, which gets major points from me seeing since I fiddled around with fusion for a pathetic attempt at an Asian horror movie review site that I shut down before it even officially opened. It being run on php-fusion allows for some pretty creative coding that, while it might not seem so sophisticated to the php savvy, leads to a system that makes sense and works. It is easy to navigate and easy to contribute to. As a whimsical reviewer on the site, I find it easy to understand. I am an html editor, not a php designer (this is mostly contributed to my ungodly ability to be lazy), and the fact that I can easily go in and write a review is refreshing to say the least.
But this is from a participant standpoint. What is it about the site that would appeal to people on the internet? A mixture of things go into this website that made me want to join in on the project in the first place. Besides the fact that Jacob bestowed upon me the moniker of one of the badasses of video gaming, he constructed a site where my opinion on a game, anime, movie, television show, whatever I feel like reviewing is actually valued. The reviews are based on what the reviewer thinks, but there is an option for members to leave comments. Don’t like how we trashed your favorite game? Don’t like that we loved a particular show you hated? fine, tell us about it. Doesn’t mean we’ll actually change our minds, but you have the chance to say something like the reviewer (just without the cool loading bar graphic).
The website also boasts two webcomics that are usually updated on the set schedule. Which is amazing, seeing since some webcomics (coughvgcatscough) can’t stick to their updating schedule (that is not to say that I do not love the webcomics that can’t stick to their schedules. Its just annoying).
There is the RecRoom where you are forced… invited to watch Rec’s video reviews. Which is probably more productive than reading his reviews as apparently doesn’t know how to use a spellchecker.
My personal favorite part of the website is the rant section. Anything goes.
Generally speaking, NowLoading-Online is one of those site where the kids who used to get made fun of in high school gather to make fun of each other and trash talk or praise random things that make them excited or pissed off. Or both. Kind of like how you felt while you were watching Jennifer’s Body the first time.
At NowLoading, we throw political correctness out the window and enjoy a good old fashioned nerd-gasm or two.
Stop by, check it out, and if anything strikes your fancy come again soon. The website doesn’t have much content up yet (unfortunately) but it is something that all parties involved are working on. And, if not, then I’ll just have to go kick their nerdy asses until they do their damned jobs.
